KABUL (Pajhwok): On the sixth day of escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has reported new strikes on several targets in Iran, while Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and military said they carried out retaliatory attacks on US bases in the region using drones and missiles. Over the past five days, the US has conducted multiple strikes against targets in Iran, while Tehran has responded by targeting American military positions across the region. CENTCOM announced in a statement on X at 11:18pm Afghanistan time on Wednesday that it had launched another round of strikes against Iran. In a follow-up statement issued at 6:16am Thursday, CENTCOM claimed that its latest major wave of attacks had targeted dozens of military sites, including coastal surveillance facilities, air defence systems, military logistics infrastructure, and Iranian naval capabilities. The command said the operations were aimed at further degrading Iran’s military capabilities and holding Tehran accountable for recent attacks on commercial vessels. “More than 50,000 US military personnel are operating across the Middle East and remain vigilant, lethal, and ready,” CENTCOM said.
