KABUL (Pajhwok): The death toll from two powerful earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to 4,734, while 16,740 people have been injured and 17,907 others left homeless, Venezuelan authorities said. According to reports, the two powerful earthquakes struck parts of northern Venezuela on 24 June, causing widespread destruction. The disaster affected tens of thousands of people, damaged or destroyed thousands of buildings and is considered one of the country’s deadliest natural disasters in recent years. Reuters, quoting Jorge Rodriguez, president of Venezuela’s National Assembly, reported that the death toll from the twin earthquakes had reached 4,734 by Tuesday. According to the report, the number of injured remained at 16,740, while 17,907 people had lost their homes. Venezuelan authorities said relief operations, temporary shelter programmes and assistance for those affected were continuing, with thousands of people still living in emergency camps.
