WHO: Everyone must play role in ensuring safe care — Pajhwok

KABUL (Pajhwok): The World Health Organisation (WHO) representative in Afghanistan says providing safe and high-quality healthcare to patients living with non-communicable diseases requires cooperation among patients, health workers, caregivers and the wider community. In a message posted on its X today (Thursday) to mark World Patient Safety Day, the organisation quoted Dr Edwin Ceniza Salvador, WHO representative in Afghanistan, as saying that everyone has a role to play in ensuring safe healthcare. “Safe and high-quality healthcare is essential for people living with non-communicable diseases,” Salvador said. He said protecting patients from preventable harm and ensuring safe healthcare at every stage of life was a shared responsibility in Afghanistan. Salvador said patient safety is the foundation of high-quality healthcare and that every patient should receive safe and effective care throughout the treatment and healthcare process. World Patient Safety Day is observed annually on 17 September. The day aims to raise awareness of the importance of patient safety, prevent avoidable harm and promote safe and high-quality healthcare. The occasion also highlights the shared role of patients, health workers, caregivers, families and communities in ensuring safe and effective healthcare services.
