Workers discover gold worth over $10m in Belgium — Pajhwok

KABUL (Pajhwok): Construction workers have discovered a cache of gold worth an estimated €9 million ($10.4 million) while excavating land for a sewage network in Dendermonde, Belgium, People magazine reports. The hoard, found at a construction site in Dendermonde, included 49 gold bars and a large number of gold coins. Police were called to the site following the discovery. Authorities collected and documented the gold before transferring it to a secure federal government facility. Kobe, 18, one of the workers, said he initially believed the coins were ordinary €1 coins. However, after noticing a piece of gold, he realised the workers had made a significant discovery. Mario, the project manager, said he had never encountered anything similar during his 33 years in the construction industry. The East Flanders Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation to determine the origin and legal ownership of the gold. “At this moment, it is not known where that gold comes from, nor to whom it legally belongs,” prosecutor Hanne Ollevier told People magazine.
