KABUL (Pajhwok): Two people have been killed and 21 others injured in a Russian missile attack on Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, while a thermal power plant was also targeted, a media report said on Wednesday. Reuters reported that the attack took place on Tuesday, marking the second strike on Kyiv within 24 hours. Ukrainian officials said their Western allies had not issued a warning ahead of the attack. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the strike on a nine-storey building had killed two people and injured 21 others. He added that four of the injured were in critical condition. Parts of the building caught fire following the attack, prompting emergency crews to respond, extinguish the blaze and evacuate residents, he said. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the main target of the attack was energy infrastructure, particularly Thermal Power Plant No. 4. He claimed that, according to Ukrainian intelligence, Russia was preparing to launch further attacks using ballistic missiles. Zelenskyy criticised Ukraine’s Western allies for failing to provide advance warnings of the missile attacks, saying Russia continued to target the country’s energy infrastructure. hz
