$30m pharmaceutical factory inaugurated in Herat — Pajhwok

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A pharmaceutical factory with an investment of $30 million has been inaugurated in western Herat province, while the foundation stone for its $15 million second phase has also been laid. The second phase will focus on the production of injectable medicines and is expected to produce 30 million ampoules and 25 million vials annually. According to a statement from the Ministry of Public Health, Public Health Minister Mawlavi Noor Jalal Jalali, Deputy Minister for Food and Medicines Mawlavi Hamdullah Zahid, officials from various government departments, representatives of international organisations, private-sector members, doctors, traders and industrialists attended the inauguration ceremony. The ministry said the factory was established to boost domestic pharmaceutical production, ensure the supply of quality medicines and reduce Afghanistan’s dependence on imported drugs. The facility has the capacity to produce around 300 types of medicines, it said. Speaking at the ceremony, Jalali stressed the need to expand pharmaceutical production, support domestic investment and reduce reliance on imports. He described the establishment of well-equipped and standard pharmaceutical factories as an important step towards achieving pharmaceutical self-sufficiency and meeting the country’s healthcare needs.
