KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) says a contract for the extraction and processing of the Shor Taq coal mine in Khaibar district of northern Faryab province has been signed with a private company. In a statement, the ministry said the contract was signed with Khatam-ul-Anbia Company on Monday. Mullah Hedayatullah Badri, Minister of Mines and Petroleum, said at the signing ceremony that the mine covers about one square kilometre. He said the company would pay 1,000 afghanis in royalty and invest $776,500 in the project. Badri said the project would also provide social services and create job opportunities for a large number of people during the extraction process. The statement quoted the head of Khatam-ul-Anbia Company as saying: “Under the contract, we will extract the mine professionally and according to standards and strive to make effective use of its mineral resources.”
