KABUL (Pajhwok): Germany has deported 40 Afghan asylum seekers convicted of various crimes to Afghanistan, a media report said on Thursday. German broadcaster WDR quoted a spokesman for the Federal Ministry of the Interior as saying that the charter flight carrying the men departed from Leipzig/Halle Airport and landed in Kabul on Wednesday. According to the ministry, all those deported were men convicted of offences including manslaughter, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, physical assault and drug trafficking. The ministry said 10 German states, including North Rhine-Westphalia, had taken part in the deportation operation. It added that a total of 303 Afghan men had been deported from Germany to Afghanistan since the start of the current legislative term. Meanwhile, a spokesman for North Rhine-Westphalia’s Ministry for Children, Youth, Family, Equality, Refugees and Integration told WDR that five of those deported were from the state. The ministry said the men had been required to leave Germany and had previous criminal records. According to German Federal Police figures, 18 deportations of Afghan nationals from North Rhine-Westphalia to Afghanistan had been carried out by August 31, 2026, with the latest cases adding to that total.
