KABUL (Pajhwok): The governor of western Herat has called for expediting the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project during a meeting with the project’s head in Afghanistan and Turkmenistan’s deputy consul. The Herat governor’s office said in a statement on X on Sunday that Sheikh Maulana Islamjar met with Begenj Abdullayev, head of the TAPI project in Afghanistan, and the deputy consul of Turkmenistan, in the presence of the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ representative office in Herat. During the meeting, Islamjar proposed establishing a joint Afghan-Turkmen trade exhibition in Torghundi, Afghanistan, and Serhetabat, Turkmenistan, saying it would help expand bilateral trade, promote domestic products and strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries. The statement said Abdullayev thanked Herat’s local authorities for their continued support in advancing the TAPI project, describing their cooperation as instrumental in accelerating its implementation. According to the statement, Abdullayev and the deputy consul welcomed the proposal for the joint exhibition and said they would present it to the relevant authorities in Turkmenistan for consideration.
