KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), marking the 107th anniversary of Afghanistan’s Independence Day, has said the country’s independence was achieved through the struggles and sacrifices of Afghans and urged young people and future generations to stand firmly against all forms of aggression and occupation. In a statement, the IEA said that 107 years ago, on August 19 (Asad 28), the Afghan people, with what it described as divine assistance, forced the British Empire to recognize Afghanistan’s full independence following a “powerful jihad.” It said Afghanistan’s authority over its foreign policy, which had been taken away by the British at the time, was restored to the Afghan people. The IEA congratulated Afghans on the 107th anniversary of independence, saying the achievement was secured through the “jihad, sacrifices and selflessness” of Afghan fighters and that the Afghan people continue to take pride in and commemorate the victory.
